Order types: market, limit, stop and stop-limit

The terminal supports market orders (execute now) and six pending order types that wait for a price you choose. Switch to the Pending tab in the Order Ticket to place them:

  • Buy Limit / Sell Limit — enter when price moves *back to* your trigger (buy below the market, sell above it).
  • Buy Stop / Sell Stop — enter on a breakout (buy above the market, sell below it).
  • Buy Stop Limit / Sell Stop Limit — two-stage: when the Stop price is reached, a resting Limit order is armed at your Limit price.

For a pending order you type the trigger price (and a limit price for stop-limit orders), then choose an expiration: GTC (good-till-cancelled, the default), Today (auto-cancels at 23:59), or Specified (a date/time you pick). If your trigger is on the wrong side of the current market, the ticket rejects it with a message. Pending orders are allowed even when a market is closed — they simply wait for the session to reopen.

  1. 1In the Order Ticket, click the Pending tab.
  2. 2Choose one of the six pending kinds (Buy/Sell Limit, Buy/Sell Stop, Buy/Sell Stop Limit).
  3. 3Enter the Trigger (Stop) price; for stop-limit also enter the Limit price.
  4. 4Pick an expiration: GTC, Today, or Specified date/time.
  5. 5Set volume, leverage and optional SL/TP, then click Place.
